Gambit's Asset Previewer

Hello and welcome to Gambit’s Asset Previewer! Asset Previewer is an asset management, asset deployment, and media preview toolkit for Foundry VTT that helps you quickly browse, search, tag, and deploy your images, videos, and audio from a single location.

If you’ve ever had a huge pile of maps, tokens, handouts, or ambience files and thought “I know I have something for this… somewhere” - Asset Previewer is built for that moment (I know because of the number of times I myself have had that thought 😌). It gives you a fast in-Foundry library with favorites, tags, advanced search queries, and drag-and-drop placement tools.

To access the app, go to the Tiles controls menu and look for the media button, or use the keyboard shortcut

Module Overview

• Asset Library inside Foundry — browse your available media in one place with the ability to add any custom asset directories you may have!
• Images / Videos — switch between media types quickly.
• Tags — add tags per asset to create organization you understand.
• Multi-select + Batch Tagging — tag many assets at once.
• Advanced Search — supports advanced queries like (crystal OR tower) AND NOT mage.
• Right-click Details — inspect and edit asset metadata.
• Drag & Drop — drop assets to the canvas to create Tiles or Ambient Sounds.

Viewer Options

The main toolbar is built around four grouping options:

• Scenes — View all assets tagged as a scene. Many map-makers have built-in module support including Angela's Maps, Cze & Peku, Moonlight Maps, The MAD Cartographer, Tom Cartos, Zachs Maps, and more.
• Tokens — View all assets tagged as a token.
• Assets — View all assets tagged as... assets! These are general assets such as map decor, or animations from modules such as JB2A, Eskies Effects, Boss Loot, Jinker's Animated Art and more.
• Audio — View all assets tagged as audio, currently includes built-in handling for PSFX, PSFX Patreon, and PSFX Ambience.

Tagging & Search

• Per-asset tags — add as many tags as you want to improve discovery.
• Batch tagging — enable multi-select and apply tags to all selected assets.
• Advanced query search — supports AND, OR, NOT, and parentheses.

Custom Directory Manager

GAP can scan built-in assets and also lets you add your own folders via a Custom Directory Manager. Each custom directory can be assigned a type so GAP can treat it appropriately:

• Scene
• Token
• Audio
• Asset (generic image/video)

Each directory can be scanned in Flat mode (folder only) or Recursive mode (folder + subfolders).

GAP also has a Thumbnail Generator for static images! Assets (especially Scene assets), can be very large. When loaded into the GAP grid this can cause scrolling to be a bit slower than I'd like. The Thumbnail Generator can create a thumbnail for any set of assets you'd like, and will greatly improve scrolling perfomance within the grid view while scrolling through assets.

Token & Asset Tools

For assets classified as Token or Asset:

• Drag & Drop images/videos to the canvas to create a auto-sized Tile.

Scene Tools

For assets classified as Scene, GAP includes quick scene actions:

• Import Scene — import a preconfigured Scene from a compendium when available (Map module present and active in your world).
• Create Scene — create a generic Scene using the image as the background.

Audio Tools

For assets classified as Audio:

• Preview audio with a clean built-in mini audio viewer/player with visualization.
• Add to Playlist — quickly file ambience tracks into a playlist (defaults to a “GAP Audio” playlist).
• Drag & Drop audio to the canvas to create an Ambient Sound at the drop location.

Settings

• Disable Token Controls Button — hides the GAP button from Token controls (keybind-only access).
• Enable Sync Mode — opens the management window in sync mode (may improve consistency/performance on some systems).
