Death Effects

Death Effects adds tools to configure animations to play on a token when it is defeated, meant to directly mimic the classic JRPG feel.

Automatic Trigger

Automatically trigger death effect animations when:

  • The actor gains a particular status effect, such as 'Dead',
  • When an actor's resource, such as health, reaches 0
  • When the actor gains an Active Effect

Some reasonable defaults are configured for this automatic trigger that should be widely applicable for different game systems, and there are some specific integrations made for particular popular systems, to try and reduce the amount of work that may be required to configure this option.

Timeline Editor

The module uses a timeline editor to visualize and edit start time and duration for effects

See the wiki for more information

See the wiki for documentation and usage instructions.

Effects

  • Crumble - Break the token's sprite into pixels that fall and disappear over time, starting from the top or bottom, as if it were crumbling to nothing
  • Dissolve - Dissolve the token's sprite in blocks
  • Dust - Similar to the Crumble effect, causes a token's sprite to be broken up into individual pixels and sent in a given direction, like dust on the wind.
  • Fade - Fades the token to transparent.
  • Flash - Flashes the token a given color
  • Macro - Exeutes a macro
  • Melt - Melts the token, much like the level transition effect from Doom
  • Screen Flash - Flashes the screen a given color, either the entire screen or just the background
  • Screen Shake - Shakes the screen
  • Shake - Shake the token
  • Slide - Slides the token's sprite in some direction
  • Sound - Play a sound, optionally positioned at the token's location
  • Sprite Animation - Will triggeran animation via the Sprite Animations module
  • Start Playlist - Start a preset playlist, optionally specifying a particular sound
  • Stop Playlist - Stop any currently playing playlists
  • Tint - Change the color of the token
  • Token Magic FX - Add an effect via the Token Magic FX module

If you want to really embrace the console RPG feel, consider these other modules also by yours truly:

  • Battle Transitions - Add animations and special effects to your scene transitions
  • MicroMap - Simple configurable minimap that can show either a static image or a scene (even if it is not currently the active scene)
  • Sprite Animations - Easily change displayed images for tokens and tiles, allowing for seamless changes between animations
  • Sprite Shadows - Automatically add shadows to your tokens and tiles
  • Token Nameplates - Change how names for tokens are displayed, and add additional nameplates
