Lord Stendor’s Chest of Maps – The Nine Hells

Lord Stendor brings you his chest of maps!

In it, this time, there is a collection of 9 astonishing maps depicting the nine hells of the outer planes.

Each map is a location of a layer of the nine hells in a highly detailed environment and designed for use by the Dungeon Master to place the adventure. Each map has several locations for encounters, ambushes, interactions. All maps are about the same size (6300px x 6300px) unless otherwise stated in the description. They are high resolution images designed to be played with a 50px grid enhancing the vastness of the outer planes but you can modify this as you see fit.

As a Bonus there is a tenth map depicting a cavern were the river Styx flows in a 6300px x 3300px resolution. Each map is designed to have an entrance and at least one exit in case you want to use it that way.

 The chest in detail includes:

1) The First: Also known by some as “Avernus”, this is a barren, ravaged battlefield filled with remains of battles past, weapons and bones are scatter throughout it. The great river Styx flows through it, its red waters mingling with the blood of the fallen. On the one side of the map there is an outpost (or entry to a settlement) with a few rooms designed to be used by the Dungeon Master if need arises. The map is 7800px x 7800px.

2) The Second: Also known by some as “Dis”, this is a city of metal and fire, narrow streets of ever changing landscape with crews constructing and demolishing buildings. The streets are metallic and red hot, hot lava flows in the centre of the map and a keep is located across a bridge. Only the outside of the keep is designed for freedom for the DM to use it as it is needed. The map also features an inn and a blacksmith for various uses. This map is 6600px x 6300px.

3) The Third: Also known by some as “Minauros”. This layer is a toxic bog and swampy place filled with fumes and unnaturally dangerous waters. Mud mounts and islets of toxic air permeate the environment. Dead trees and jagged rocks dot the land. A trail of black rock lava strewn ridge leads off the map.

4) The Fourth: Also known by some as “Phlegethos”. This map is as close to “classical hell” as one can find. Barren soil, rivers of lava and red boulders pepper the land. The atmosphere is filled with steam, smoke, brimstone and cinders.

5) The Fifth: Also known by some as “Stygia”. A vast frozen ocean with multiple islets of ice and snow. Jagged ice and rocks dot the land. Icy steam fills the atmosphere. The great river of the dead in its blood red colors cuts the map in half, but there is a way to cross it, not a safe one of course.

6) The Sixth: Also known by some as “Malbolge”. A place of black titanic rocks stacked on each other in an angle that make even the most daring adventurers sweat. Dark place with many places to bring peril to a group.

7) The Seventh: Also known by some as “Maladomini”. A huge labyrinth of ravines and ridges, filled with ruins and perils. A lava lake, an old mine, a ruined library and an abandoned encampment fill the map with interesting places to explore.

8) The Eighth: Also known by some as “Cania”. A vast frozen mountain range. Filled with ice and snow. Perilous to a fault jagged ice and steep ridges are everywhere. A trail leads to the entrance of a keep.

9) The Ninth: Also known by some as “Nessus”. A beautiful map depicting a land of antithesis. A frozen landscape meets fiery landscape. Scorched broken earth filled with volcanoes, ravines, lava rivers and flaming forests that meet icy winds and snow. A trail leads over the mountain range to a frozen lake.

Bonus - The River Styx: A cavern the great river of the dead passes through with shores on both sides. Natural dark rock, boulders and stalagmites dot the caverns. This map is 6300px x 3300px.

Enjoy!
