The ribcages are not the only way to access the catacombs, there is another. Perhaps more dangerous in some respects, it is usually not as populated with the automatons as the vehicular entrances. Occasionally, large exhausts breach the surface of the desert to belch toxic fumes into the sky, a by product of the forges deep below. These structures claw above the sand, delivering their horrifying cargo into our atmosphere before burrowing beneath the sands once more. If you can catch an exhaust in time, by chasing down the gigantic plumes of smoke, you can descend directly through the open pipe. Be prepared for an environment hazardous to all life, wear clothing to keep out the fumes and bring means to navigate the smoke.
