There is always that one big abandoned mine just outside the town that may and may not be interesting. The party can investigate and return with some rusty sword, a few copper coins, and sand in their pockets or they can fight something buried deep that started all the legends shrouding that mine. Or they can face BBEG in its lair, who is just about to devour the missing miners.
