We are proud to present the Foundry Hub Weblate website. A platform dedicated to helping both developers and users localize Foundry VTT modules and systems.

Up until now, while some developers have been using their own localization software, most of the existing packages are either not localized or use flat .json files and a good pair of eyes to maintain their translation files.

With this initiative, we hope to encourage the community to improve package accessibility for non-English speakers.

Some key points:

• We take care of the technical stuff; adding a new package on the Weblate server is trivial for the developers.
• No need to know how to use Git or how to create Pull Request for the users who wish to help translate. Just use the website.
• Thanks to our custom addon, users can add an entire new language to a project without any help from the developer. Weblate even edits the package manifest for them.
• No risk to the package repository; changes are automatically sent as a Pull Request once every 24 hours.
• Want some help from an AI? Machine translation suggestions from DeepL are available directly while translating a project.

What is Weblate?

Weblate is a copylefted libre software web-based continuous localization system, used by over 2500 libre projects and companies in more than 165 countries.
It provides a simple, powerful and easy-to-use interface for translating software projects with a focus on community-driven projects.

What is Foundry Hub Weblate?

Foundry Hub Weblate is a community-maintained Weblate server that is used to translate Foundry VTT modules and systems.
It is provided free of charge to Foundry VTT community members and is hosted on the Foundry Hub servers.

Who can use Weblate?

Anyone can use Weblate to translate Foundry VTT modules and systems. Just create a free account and start translating any of the modules and systems currently available on Foundry Hub Weblate.

Once your project is set up, read our Recommendations for developers page for tips on how to get the best out of Weblate.

It was long overdue, but I’ve removed some dead sections from the website, namely the video section and the forum.

I’m not crossing the idea of these features forever, but until I find a sustainable solution, it’s better for the website’s health to remove them. It allows us to focus our efforts on the most active pages (package discovery and blog-like content) while having the time to host some cool community efforts like the League’s Package Jam.

The video section was not automated and was too cumbersome for the video makers to use. If I can find a way to get newly posted meaningful videos about Foundry automatically, I’ll add them back.

The forum never found its user critical mass. Between the Discord preferred by power users and the Reddit community well established for newcomers, there were just not enough people interested for the moment.

A huge thanks to anyone involved in the creation of these categories.

Please note the data is not lost. If you need to backup stuff from the forum, please send me a DM over Discord, and I’ll send you a copy of the data you need.

Foundry Hub will always be moving and changing to adapt to the Foundry VTT ecosystem. Our goal will always be to provide the missing pieces in our community, not to compete with the better alternatives.

This name change is the tip of the iceberg, as Foundry Gaming reimagines their development cycles in a new phased timeline.

In this article, we will see what these changes mean from the user’s point of view. We also interviewed Anathema, Project Coordinator at Foundry Gaming, for his insights.

The new naming convention

The name of the versions is now directly linked to the current development phase. Thus, it is no longer necessary to search the official website or Discord announcements when hearing about version “0.8.5” to determine whether a version is intended for the general public or community testers and developers.

Separated into three parts, each version follows the same path. Only the number of iterations per phase is flexible and will depend on the stability and complexity of each release.

In addition, each release is labeled with a build number. This number is a unique identifier that further determines the code version packed into this release. In general, you should not need to worry about this number if you are not a developer yourself.

As for the phases themselves, Foundry Gaming has redesigned its six-phase approach for each release, from planning to the maintenance period.

This month have seen several layout updates, and we added four new pages. So let’s dive in right away:

Header

The header has been made thinner to give more room for quick access links.

• From there, you can now directly access a number of popular filters for videos, packages and creators.
• The “Forum” menu has been renamed “Community” and made into an extended menu that gives access to new pages
  • The full member list, where you can search for someone and contact them or add them as a friend for quick access
  • The activity stream where you can see what is happening in real time on the website

Footer

The footer has been entirely remade and now gives access to important pages that we could not highlight previously.

• Our Open Collective page. Open Collective is a platform that helps non-profit organizations to get donations and share their costs in full transparency. After one year of operation, we decided that it was the best course of action to keep our autonomy while being able to accept the financial help from the community. I’ll explain this initiative in another longer post sometime later in the following weeks.
• A new F.A.Q. This one was long overdue, but here it is! If you still have unaswered question, do not hesitate to comment here of contact me directly.
• The “Links and Resources” page that was previously in the header has been moved there.
• The “Team” page! Check out all those awesome folks helping me run this site everyday

• To allow you to discover new Youtube channels offering content for Foundry VTT.
• To propose a video catalog that allows you to search for a specific topic or explore video content entirely dedicated to FVTT. Obviously, this catalog will fill up with time. It will also enable creators to update some videos that have become obsolete with new software versions.

Our editorial team is there to guide you through the steps of writing and creating your article. A forum

Although we all love Discord and the simplicity it brings to our exchanges, we think it is sometimes useful or practical to benefit from a less instantaneous, more organized discussion platform that allows us to exchange on more complex subjects. Oh, and with a real search engine… (Mr. Discord, please!)

A package explorer

Directly connected to the official list, thanks to the services of the fantastic KaKaRoTo, the package explorer enriches the creations of our great community of developers with several improvements. Come and discover new up-and-coming modules or browse the most popular ones available today. Vote for your favorite systems and modules and follow the trends in real-time. Freely inspired by the model of the famous game modding website “NexusMods”, you can add comments and “Endorse” the packages you like to help make them known.

On the page of each package, you can find all the information provided by the developer, or discover the other modules from the author of your favorite system.

A creator explorer

Discover our list of creators of all kinds proposing their creations directly to the gamemasters amongst us. Battlemap creators, musicians, writers and more! Quickly find those who offer directly usable content in a FVTT-optimized format by selecting the “Made for Foundry” tag and explore all their communication channels: Patreon, social networks, and more.

While we have worked hard to provide you with a site that is as complete and functional as possible, we are counting on your feedback and help to improve Foundry Hub. Likewise, please let us know directly on our Gitlab or the forum if you encounter any problems or bugs.
